Personal Responsibility The pathway to successful future begins with taking a close look at the ability to commit and be accountable for all actions even when no one is looking. Making the right decision and understanding that there will be challenges along the way can definitely prepare the body and mind to readily face them head on. The personal responsibility of an individual plays an important role to reach the ultimate goal to be successful. Personal responsibility pertains to our ability to discipline ourselves as well as taking a responsible approach and ownership on our career, education, family and most of all our actions.I believe that personal responsibility is vital to academic achievement of an individual because it can exercise self-efficacy, helps to recognize problems easily and manages time effectively to achieve success and happiness. There are many other factors in life that are struck by the effects of personal responsibility, but only a few are highly significant and usually kicks off the rest of the constructive effects. Establishing a relationship between personal responsibility and academic endeavor is very significant because it forms a ground rule to move forward and accept the reality of a decision made and what is destined to happen.Receiving an education is a choice, therefore it is our personal responsibility to make sure that we can meet the academic demand require. A strong sense of self-efficacy supports that responsibility because it can somehow motivate us to move on and challenge our way to academic success because we believe in our ability to reach our goal. Self-efficacy is an individual‘s perceived capabilities to attain designated types of performances and to achieve specific results (Pajares, 1996; Tella & Ayeni, 2006).When we accept responsibility for our own actions we can easily recognize and overcome the tests that are bound to happen along the way. Our positive outlook strengthens our confidence and definitely boosts our self-worth because it encourages us to be more responsible. We have to be careful however on instilling boosts of high expectations or beliefs, the effects can be very disappointing when it is not fully realized. The focus should be on realistic capabilities and potentials so that we can appreciate success in terms of self-development rather than achievements (Bandura, A 1994).Acknowledging responsibility helps to take control of daily life. Another factor that needs a great sense of responsibility is time management. Overwhelming schedule managing education, career, household and other activities can definitely put a person in a bind if schedule is not well planned. When there is a set objective and commitment to achieve that goal, a clear sense of direction in life must be established as well. Setting preliminary goal as well as short and long term goal can definitely put some perspective to how an individual wants to accomplish that objective.With that in mind, time m anagement will be effortless knowing what can be done now and what to accomplish later. A permit for any adjustments on any unforeseen challenges can be detected and easily resolve because commitment and responsibility makes a stand to face any setback and move on to continue the raise to success. A person can manage time effectively because of accountability and the will to accept responsibility for any actions, knowing that there will be consequences. So in order for me to be successful in every aspect of my life, I need to manage time effectively.Well managed time sees the possibilities of new opportunities and helps you create want you want in future. Here is my preliminary plan for this school year: Preliminary plan: 1. Set my short and long term goal. 2. Read on my syllabus and take note of important projects and due dates 3. Prioritize and organize my schedule according to my work and scheduled assignments and required readings. 4. Schedule time to be online and work on DQâ⠂¬â„¢s and assignments. 5. Schedule learning team discussion and assignments In keeping personal responsibility intact and focused, there is no doubt that challenges are bound to happen.Successful status academically, professionally and life in general will always present extreme encounters along the way, testing how strong the concentration and motivation devoted to the goal. Another important factor why responsibility is essential in daily academic life is learning to recognize challenges. Any challenges does not have to set us back, perhaps they should motivate us to be more proactive and ready to face these challenges head on. The quicker any problem is resolve, the quicker to move on and refocus on all the academic requirements and accomplish them right away.As we anticipate and accept that there will be hurdles then we can easily adjust to the situation and find a reasonable resolution. In order to race to academic success, I must remain motivated and focus on the big picture all the way through finish line and graduate. With a sensible practice of personal responsibility I believe I can tackle the duties to achieve my objectives. The facade of the vehicles is sleek and sporty with flashy rims which promises power and the back of the FFU is like a truck. The FFU is unique and will allow use for both work and play. The car would appeal to masculine audiences who find use in a utility vehicle. The distinctive aspect of the product is the ‘Ford’ emblem which is oval and dark blue with silver outline and inner ring with the brand ‘Ford’ in cursive font.The emblem is recognizable worldwide. The basic benefit that customers get when purchasing a FFU is transportation. But, the FFU offers more; the car serves as an icon and an Aussie bloke’s style accessory (McDowall 2012). On the other hand, if the price of the FFU increases by 10% it will mean that buyers will now have t o pay A$44,000 for exactly the same vehicle, then demand will most likely decrease. Customers will begin searching for another option with better value to purchase as there are many similar vehicles in the market. The business costs are very important when determining the price of the FFU.This is because every cost that is going into the production, advertising and distribution of the car is passed on to the customers. Sellers will have to search for the most effective and efficient option of producing the vehicle parts, and assembling the cars. Some of the sellers’ decisions which will affect the prices of the vehicles are, costs of having the vehicles assembled in countries the vehicles are sold at compared to the shipping costs of assembled vehicles to be sold internationally. Hence, the vehicle buyers choose to purchase will have to be able to withstand the weather, terrains, and wear. Price is not so much an is sue, however when compared alongside other similar vehicles (as started in the table above), the FFU seems to be selling on the more pricey side.Therefore, if the buyers are budget sensitive, they may decide to weigh in other brands and test-drive the other brands of Utes that are more budget friendly. It also reduces costs and increases competency of a business. Therefore, customers are not able to buy the product directly from the Ford factory. There are many places aside the factory that customers can purchase FFU from.Ford is an international brand and the company strives to ensure that customers can find their products easily. Locations that customers can purchase the FFU are official dealerships, private sellers, franchised dealers and private car yards. The most obvious location customers ca n purchase the FFU is from a Ford dealership that is available worldwide. Customers may search on the Ford official site for a dealer location closest to them. The vehicles are also available for purchase from a licensed dealer for example, John Hughes, AHG and many more.Customers may also choose to purchase the FFU second hand from a third party; for example a previous owner (a private sale), a licenses private car yard, or even a franchised car dealer. A vehi cle is a huge product to ship and transport internationally, hence as stated above in Section 1. 2 of the report, Ford may have partnerships in various locations to produce parts of the cars and have the parts shipped to be assembled in different locations to save costs. However, if the costs are too high and it is not viable to produce or ship a car in certain countries, then Ford might decide not to distribute to that particular country.Affecting distribution decisions are also the taxes and regulations of imported cars in certain countries. In Malaysia, the government aims to protect their local car brands and had imposed exorbitant tax prices on imported cars. In this instance, it may reduce Ford’s affluence in the Malaysian market and definitely reduce sales. Hence it is important for Ford to conduct extensive research and consider if distributing their products to certain countries will be profitable. A positive aspect of distribution of vehicles is that they have no us e by date. There is no shelf-life and a car is a machine that will still work after 6 months.The only downside is to consider the year the car was made as cars lose their value from the date it has been produced. The longer it has been sitting in the show room or the store, or has been driven (odometer has a reading) the least value the car has. The ad was aired on national television in the year 2000. It features the FFU racing a modified jet-look alike race car on a flat but rocky terrain. In the ad, as the FFU drive past the jet race-car, the passenger of the FFU made a cheeky remark, â€Å"must be stuck in third†.Then driver decides to accelerate, and the FFU speeds ahead of the jet race-car leaving the jet race-car driver with an amazed look on his face. Then there is a voiceover, mentioning â€Å"The XR8 Falcon Ute, It’s Unbelievable† and the ad moves to the next screen which shows steel bars coming together with the words, ‘Built Tough’ and the Ford logo in the middle of the screen. The next ad, is one of the few from a series of ad. It is a series of ad using the humour appeal which is found on the myFord website (myFord 2012) (refer to appendix for the ad). The ad shows a FFU parked at the top of a cliff, overlooking the beautiful scenery at sunset.A lady sits by the car with her picnic mat and basket and her partner is in the car. They are watching the sunset together, while holding hands (with his hand out of the window and she reaching out for him on the mat from the grass). The caption at the bottom of the ad is â€Å"You’ll never want to get out of the all new Falcon Ute†. Other series of these ads include a guy barbequing from the window of his car on the beach, a couple getting married in a garden with the bride holding the groom’s hand from the car and a lady sun bathing at the beach while the only visible thing about her partner’s hand, holding a bottle of beer from the car window.The TV ad and the website ad are not sending the same message. This could be because these ads are for a slightly different product; they are for the ‘upgraded’ versions of the originals. Hence, Ford wants to send a different message to the buyers that they have identi fied as their target audience and their needs at that particular point in time. For the TV ad, the general message of the TV ad is that the FFU is built for speed and for the web ad, is that the FFU is built for comfort. The theme in the first ad is comparison and demonstration while the theme for the second ad is humor.For the first ad, the business is trying to rule out any misconception of a utility vehicle being slow. Hence, they compared the FFU to a speed of jet race car, and showing (but not exactly proving) that the FFU in fact can be faster than a jet race car. For the web ad, the Ford used humor to show how the FFU, being a utility vehicle can be used on all terrains (mountain, beach, garden) and at the same time it is still very comfortable (that the driver will not want to leave the car for any reasons).At a glance, the messages and the themes of the ads are different but there exists an inherent common goal for both the ad, which is, â€Å"it is built tough, spacious, just for male young adults who like fast, durable, comfortable cars. † Ford wants to attract the masculine audience that has a need for utility vehicles. Ford focuses on promoting to the audience that they do not need to compromise utility for speed and style. The fact that the vehicle is so versatile is a plus point. Page 6 of 18 2. Segmentation Theory 2. 1 Define segmentation (using more than just the textbook’s definition) According to Lamb et al. (2009, 29) segmentation is when marketers diversify their products to attract different groups of customers. Elliott, Rundle-Thiele and Waller (2010, 188) states that the group characteristics that customers are divided into are called segmentation variables. These segment variables include things customers have in common that may be attributed towards their buying behaviours.This segmentation variable influences the decisions for the Ford and how they position and place their product in the market. There are four broad seg ment variables; these are Geographic, Demographic, Psychographic and Behavioural (Kotler et al. 2008, 229). Geographic segmentations are customers’ characteristics of the locations they live; like, climate, local population, topography and if is an urban, suburban or a rural 2. 2 Explain segmentation For example, for the purpose of this assignment the FFU marketers will target customers living in Western Australia.The demographic characteristics are the customers’ age, sex, ethnicity, income and household composition. For example, if the ad were to show a 60 year old man as the spokesperson for a Ute the ad may be ineffective. Save money on advertising – If Ford produced which is targeted to appeal to a particular segment; they can also set the image of the product. This will also increase efficiency as there will be less wastage of valuable time, effort and advertising funds. It is better to produce one ad that is focused where the target audiences will understand and be able to relate to rather than 10 ads that have little relevance to t he market and will more likely cause confusion. †¢ Easier to monitor changes in a segment than a whole market – If Ford place a team to focus on the arget market of the FFU, they will be able to foresee and predict to market changes that are specific to the segments. The impact on the individuals cultural and social boundaries is highly attributed to the long average hours of listening to music. Despite the fact that there is extensive variety of genres of music, adults and children differ on how they select the content to listen to. With the ability to discern what is right and what is wrong, adults may not be highly affected by the current behavior or social ills. Children on the other hand are much prone to the attractive violent category of music; the music contains plots that draw adolescents and other minority. During the development stages in adolescent, children try to discover their own Hero and role models. This means that the environment in which these children spend and grow will give them the character they want as own hero. At this time, the most inspiring issue to the child is to get what she or he wants. Most music videos may show half naked women which affect the mental health of a child. Due to the societal behavioral classification, this mode of dressing is not acceptable in public. Therefore children experience severe mental strain in deciding what to accept as a norm or evil. Depending on the exposure the child experiences, the child can develop in favor of the environment. A child can grow in a calm environment which may promote the wellbeing of the child. Calm videos can help the child admire to have the future he or she sees on the TV or such media. These groups of children prefer to stay in peaceful environment and mostly tend to be obedient and accepted in the society. On the other hand violent videos tend to portray that the world is much violent than the way it is. This makes children believe that their home is the only exemption that is safe. Children get deceived that their families must align with the society. Children do not have great exposure to the outer society due to their parental care. This leaves the children to understand the community to be home and TV or digital media. This means that if the parents do not stay at home for long hours, the child may end up adopting the media culture other than the home culture. The child advances in being violent and aggressive through the adolescent to early adulthood. The cognitive scripts developed by children are developed through imitating media heroes. Most of these are adopted from violent music videos and shows. As teenagers and children watch these violent acts, they are able to internalize these scripts and become effective in influencing the life of the individual (Mhhe.com). Fashion is one of the areas that teenagers and children want to feel like they rule. They always want to outdo others, either among themselves or when alone. Celebrities adopt specific fashion for different tracks and videos; this leaves the child in a much vulnerable and delicate situation of selecting the style they want. These fashion problems may become an issue to the family since they may not be acceptable to the parents and the general public. The tense can lead to family problems where parents engage in physical confrontation with the child. Children on the other hand are not in a position to argue with the situation in which case they may be drawn away from their family. Areas in which fashion affects girl child includes scanty dressing, improper make up usage and use of drugs to change their body contour to look attractive. Boys may not experience extensive effects since the society does not set what is morally incorrect for the boy child. The problem however may be pronoun ced in a Christian family setting. This means that children can negatively be affected by such fashion (Media Awareness Network). The other problem area that music videos affect children during development is the misuse and use of alcohol in children. Video show explicit situations where young people are using alcohol and drugs. The child thinks that such use of drugs and alcohol would make the known and respected in the society. Since the video may not be only one that show such behaviors, the child tend to think that use of drugs or alcohol does not have any consequences after all. Although they may see warning signs on billboards highlighting the negative effects of using drugs and alcohol in young age, they do not get convinced as they get while watching a video. Such a child faces the wrath of using such drugs and alcohol to a point of addiction. The problem with such addiction is that they would require the individual to get medical attention and rehabilitation to recover and have a normal life again. Before the child or a parent discovers this problem, the child would have wasted a lot of precious time t hat could be used to develop talents and discover his or her mission in life. As earlier said, children may not be in a position to determine their role model with a conscious mind; the prominent environment chooses for them (Media Awareness Network). Language is the other aspect of a child that is affected by these videos. A child would always want to develop his or her commanding ability especially among peers or to use when asking something from the parent. The process of developing such that he or she can command respect naturally can get interfered with through audio and visual media. When the child sees someone on video eliciting vulgar words to others and gets what he needs done, and then the child will find it easier and efficient. The fact that such language is common in hard music which happens to be wide spread, the child assumes that such language is allowed in the society. The child ends up adopting the vulgar language for use in the community. Such children get discriminated in a society that values respectful individuals (Media Awareness Network). Fear is the other effect the music videos can have on the children. Children always want to feel safe and secure; it may not be the case when they discover that the world is not as they take it. Guns and deaths seem exaggerated on videos such that the child feels that anyone can be killed anytime and the criminal goes scot-free. The child may develop fear that this may happen to him or her or even to one of the family members. This can result to negative development of such children. With advancement in video production technology, video animation has become much easier. Some videos contain pictures showing situations where human being are being traumatized by unknown creatures, such video can be a fear factor to a child who has not developed enough to understand that such images are human creations and fiction. Such videos that scare children can trigger suicidal or homicidal feelings in a child. Music videos show explicit motion pictures that promote sex in the society. It is clear that such pictures would be of much interest to children who have not yet tried to indulge in sex itself. They act as the base upon which they learn how sex takes place. The sexual consciousness of a child may be aroused through such videos. Children can then try among themselves what they observed happen. In the process of trying, careless adults may become attracted to such minors. This opens to the child many challenges in life including sexually transmitted infections or even AIDS. Such sexual experiences are hard for children to contain and control, making them much vulnerable to rapists and child sex (Aubrey Jennifer). The power of such media has numerous advantages that have benefited the society, but this does not happen without a variety of back draws. Media has become much accessible to children and teens through internet. It is however the responsibility of the guardian to create conducive environment for the child to grow. This can be achieved through use of internet filter tools to lockout inappropriate media from streaming. The strongest and most influential person who modeled alcohol use in my childhood was a male relative. I was not completely aware of many of these impacts until adolescence. As a child, I did not know what alcoholism was, I just assumed that the Beefeater Gin stench coming from my relative was his cologne. However, as I grew older and was exposed to a greater variety of people and circumstances, I slowly became aware of alcoholism. I began to incorporate the new experiences I had in relation to alcohol use with a deeper understanding of my extended family. This new awareness was unsettling and painful to me. Many of my relatives were alcoholics. There was never a family brunch, dinner, or casual gathering that was not centered around alcohol.
